What are cookies?
Cookies are small files which are saved on your computer when you access a website, and which contain information which can be read by scripts loaded by a web page. Information can be written to cookies by scripts loaded by a web page, or can be sent directly from a server when you load a page.
Each time your browser makes a request from a server (for a page, image etc) it can send cookies to the server along with the request, so the server can also read information in those cookies. This is often used by servers to keep track of your "session", so that for example it can remember items you’ve saved to a shopping basket.
