Morning Worship for Twelth Sunday after Trinity

30th August 2020

A video of this service (33 min) is available.

Grace, mercy and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ be with you and also with you.

The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart God will not despise. Our sins accuse us. We confess them to God. Lord our God, in our sin we have avoided your call. Our love for you is like a morning cloud, like the dew that goes away early. Have mercy on us; deliver us from judgement; bind up our wounds and revive us; in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. May the God of love bring you back to himself, forgive you your sins, and assure you of his eternal love in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

God of constant mercy, who sent your Son to save us: remind us of your goodness, increase your grace within us, that our thankfulness may grow, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Old Testament Reading:
Jeremiah 15: 15-21
New Testament Reading:
Romans 12: 9-21
Gospel Reading:
Matthew 16: 21-28

Let us affirm our faith in Jesus Christ the Son of God. Though he was divine, he did not cling to equality with God, but made himself nothing. Taking the form of a slave, he was born in human likeness. He humbled himself and was obedient to death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God has raised him on high, and given him the name above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, and every voice proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.

The peace of God which passes all understanding, the peace that the world cannot give, be in your hearts and minds, in your home and your community; and the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, be among us and remain with us always. Amen. Let us bless the Lord. Thanks be to God. Amen.
